This project has to do with harsh segmentation and tender attention.

I begin with two satellite images of a place I have never visited. One is partially covered by cloud. The other is clear, ready for analysis.

What cannot be seen, cannot be classified.
In order to classify the terrain, the cloud must disappear.
Obstruction is annoying and needs to be removed.

I generate false-colour versions and algorithmic classifications of the terrain, assigning categories based on spectral thresholds and my own decisions. The landscape becomes organised, segmented, and named.

I then re-materialise these data through needlepoint embroidery. Stitch by stitch, I now spend time with a place first encountered through machine vision. Through embroidery, I attempt to learn the landscape with my fingers.
