Final Total

Performance by Athina Kanela

In Final Total the body functions as a living proof; a space where receipts of purchases exist, weigh heavily. Each piece of paper records a seemingly insignificant act of consumption, but accumulated they become a trace of need and identity. The performance maps how consumerism does not only measure what is spent, but also how it shapes us; what we provide ourselves, how we become carriers of numbers, totals and “final amounts”. The body, loaded with receipts, becomes a field of account; everything purchased leaves a mark, and in the end, the total is not economic but existential.
