“Sleeveface” is the art of photographically aligning a record sleeve (sleeve) with a person (face) in such a way that a new context emerges—ideally humorous, witty, subtle, ironic, or layered in meaning.
The images are created through deliberate interaction between photographer and performer, involving the selection of the cover, available props, and the spontaneous inventiveness of those involved. The possibility of digital capture and the near-instantaneous dissemination of the result turns sleeveface into an “art to go.”
