Athina Kanela (formerly Athina Kanellopoulou) is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across performance, installation, video, drawing, and research. She holds a BA in Fine Arts & New Media from Middlesex University, a postgraduate degree in Arts, Virtual Reality & Hybrid Systems from the Athens School of Fine Arts, and an MA in Art et Technologie de l’Image from Université Paris 8. She also holds a BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering.
Her practice focuses on spatial and social experience, memory and trauma, and participatory processes, with performance as a central medium. Her work has been presented internationally, including at the Athens Biennale, Venice International Performance Art Week, WRONG Biennale, BIBART Biennale, ASFA BBQ International Performance Festival, Musée de la Perrine, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, Contemporary Venice Festival, Darkness Visible, Artes Museo Zapadores, Zimmerli Art Museum, KMMN Kassel, Gas Museum Technopolis, Human Rights Global Village, AnimaSyros, Eye’s Walk Festival, Art Athina International Art Fair, AphF Benaki Museum, ANIMFEST, Audio-Visual Art Festival, Anima Mundi Festival, FICAE International Art Festival etc. She is the founder of IVAPA Projrct (International Virtual Archive of Performance Art) and EuTopia Studio and has received awards for her overall artistic work.
