Carpet (wool, traces of color) & cushion objects (ink, chalk, and charcoal on textile)
240 × 160
2026

The performative installation **“Youth Bedroom”** by Charlotte Aurich is dedicated to the threshold space found in everyday life, such as growing up within a family context. On the surface of the carpet and the cushion objects, laid and traversed traces are visible. Residues of color bear witness to the artist’s first attempts at painting during her youth, when the same carpet covered the floor of her room.
Like the woolen lines worked into the carpet fibers for the installation, the color traces map processes of experimentation and decision-making. They tell of the search for expression and of creative processes capable of initiating irritation and change within the everyday. The installation understands itself as a performative playground for the collective reading of traces.
Visitors are invited to step onto the carpet barefoot, freely arrange the cushion objects, and sit or lie down.
