Hike to Lienzingen

Lienzingen offers several highlights for us: the medieval half-timbered village is home to what is likely Germany’s only Christmas Tree Stand Museum, where we will receive an exclusive guided tour.

The Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche) in Lienzingen was built between 1476 and 1482 under Abbot Johann Riescher of Maulbronn Monastery. Situated on a hill at the southern edge of the village, it is considered an important example of late Gothic architecture in the region. Particularly striking is the contrast between the simple, darker nave with its wooden barrel vault and the light-filled chancel with its ornate ribbed vaulting. The slender church tower shapes the village skyline and is visible from afar.

Originally, the church served as a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was connected to a nearby healing spring. Today, the historic church primarily functions as a cemetery chapel and, thanks to its excellent acoustics, provides a special setting for concerts, such as those held during the “Musical Summer in Lienzingen”. The church thus impressively combines religious tradition, history, and contemporary cultural life.

In addition, St. Peter’s Church and the medieval church towers provide a unique backdrop.
